Introduction

Welcome to the website of the Korea Association for Telecommunications Policies.

"Korea Association for Telecommunications Policies is one of the leading academic societies in the field of ICT, equipped with a strong tradition and a progressive attitude towards change."

  • Since its establishment in 1994, it has grown alongside the leap and development of ICT in South Korea.
Initially, the main research areas focused on policies related to the privatization
of the telecommunications industry, competition introduction, technological standardization
, and information dissemination. Subsequently, the discussions expanded to ICT policies that
adapt to the changes in technology and society, ranging from the convergence of voice, data
, wireless, broadcasting, and telecommunications, to the recent digital transformation based on data.
Accordingly, the academic approach has expanded beyond economics to encompass management,
media studies, law, engineering, and other interdisciplinary collaborations.
  • Over the past two years, the impact of information and communication technologies on addressing social issues has rapidly increased due to COVID-19.
Now, the positive benefits of technology, along with the accompanying side effects, have become significant policy agendas worldwide.
Furthermore, ICT policy is no longer limited to specific technologies or industrial sectors but addresses the changes occurring in all aspects of society.
In times of extensive and profound change that necessitate the formation of new orders, academic societies must contribute to policy formation through deep insights into the essence of the problems and creative solutions grounded in reality.
  • Understanding and analyzing the technology and its social impacts, envisioning the future, evaluating short- and long-term policy measures—these are challenging tasks that can be achieved only through open and collaborative communication between researchers, industry professionals, and government officials across various fields.
Korea Association for Telecommunications Policies strives to be an efficient and effective academic platform that facilitates such communication and collaboration.
Through this, we aim to fulfill our social role by contributing to the resolution of various issues, ranging from collective responses to climate change to economic inequality caused by changes in industrial structure, and problems arising from technological aspects such as media and data literacy.
We sincerely welcome the active participation and suggestions from our members and those who are interested.
